Volunteers in action

Our Charity – The FutureSense Foundation

Volunteers on GapGuru programmes support the work of the FutureSense Foundation overseas. The foundation was established in 2009 as a UK registered charity (Charity Number 1132101) with the aim of making a real and sustainable difference to the communities in which we work around the world. The foundation enables us to support our local NGO partners and vulnerable individuals within such communities. This support ensures that our volunteer placements can make the maximum possible impact.

How the Foundation works

International DevelopmentThe underpinning principle of the foundation is to support our local partners by matching and placing volunteers who can assist them in delivering and meeting their long-term goals. This can be as simple as improving the standards of spoken English at a local school or helping run extra-curricular activities to provide a more rounded education to children from underprivileged communities. We also provide funds to meet specific needs or provide additional resources to make the work of our volunteers more effective.

Through working with an established network of local partners, it is our ambition to help develop the communities where we work. We believe our model of providing carefully targeted funds along with volunteers is an effective approach to international development. Our funds are only directed towards projects where we place volunteers and where there is a proposed sustainability plan, thus ensuring transparency, efficiency and long-term benefit.

Areas we support

Childcare VolunteeringWe concentrate our support in three main areas; education, child welfare, and livelihoods. Within these areas, our approach focuses on societies’ most vulnerable individuals and on local NGOs in real need.

The majority of our work is carried out with our local NGO partners, and is facilitated by our in country coordinators. In most cases these projects are already at least partially established, although we also work with communities

to develop new initiatives. The main focus of our support to our partners is in a human resource capacity, in the form of international volunteers. We also use funds, raised through the FutureSense Foundation, to supplement the contributions of our volunteers.

Supporting the FutureSense Foundation

Volunteers bring an incredible array of contributions to the Foundation, providing an invaluable resource and proving to the neglected and forgotten that there are people who care. Volunteers can make a real difference to the lives of those less fortunate, while learning more about themselves and the wider world.

Charity Volunteer AbroadThe key to successful volunteering is, in our opinion, to ensure that we are able to stimulate development at both a personal and international level. Cultural sensitivity is a hugely important aspect of this, and as such we have developed a culture of working ‘hand in hand’ with our local partners. In this way we have been able to nurture an environment conducive to positive cultural exchange, thereby enabling our volunteers to get the most out of their placement periods.

We also encourage all our volunteers to engage with their family and friends about their trip overseas and to get involved by pledging a donation to support the work of the FutureSense Foundation. With an established network of local partners, experts in the field, and many years of experience, we ensure that every penny is spent wisely, and that nothing is wasted.

By supporting the FutureSense Foundation today, you are supporting the development of stronger communities for tomorrow.
