 GapGuru is a specialist company that exclusively provides programmes and opportunities to make the most of the time they take out of their studies or work. The team has a wealth of experience in travel, volunteering and business. The Company was set up by a couple whose aim was to provide individuals a unique insight into India with opportunities for them to create their own special travel plans to achieve their goals and aspirations. The company has grown but its ethos remains the same.
Carefully chosen projects
All our projects are carefully researched. Time is spent getting to know them and what they need so as to ensure that we provide them with just the right people. Two members of the GapGuru team - one with a UK point of view and one with a local perspective visit each project. They work with a detailed checklist to see how the project is set up and how well it delivers benefits to the people in its care. The objective is to select projects that not only add value to the local community but where the work that you do and the skills that you bring can add value.
Volunteers get our time, attention and expertise
 All our volunteers are special people. We take care throughout our process to ensure that you will be happy at their chosen projects and we will work together to develop the right programme for you with the aim that you get a great project and the project gets a great volunteer. A pre - departures meeting will ensure that you are prepared for your journey to and stay in India, covering everything cultural basics, what to wear and what to/not to say and much more, so that you settle into life in India.
You will never be alone
Our GapGuru representatives meet our volunteers once they ase in India and help get them settled in to both their accommodation and projects. They are there to be both a guide and mentor and are always available if needed. They can also introduce you to other gapers in the area or be there for you when you are missing your family and friends and just need someone you can trust.
Accommodation
We take care in checking out your accommodation and talking it through with you before you go. Wherever possible we arrange for you to stay in home stays, checked out and vetted by us. Sometimes accommodation may be provided on site with the project or arranged by the organization you work with. In all cases we ensure it is safe and secure and really is your home away from home.
Travel/Adventure
You can also go on specially created trips up into the Himalayas, to the jungle, palaces and much more. This is an opportunity for you to see more of this exciting destination without having to worry about how you will travel and whether you will be safe or will be able to see all the sights. We would love to talk to you about these options and which would suit you best.
Personal development
Your time and effort will be spent on people who really need it - this could be through medical, community, teaching or business projects. You will learn about life in a developing country, gain experience for your CV and enjoy the adventure of traveling round a country full of hidden treasures.
I couldn't have had a better time if I'd tried. The children and the staff were incredibly friendly, they made me so welcome. I had the opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis with the children which was great fun and extremely beneficial. I was able to build up some good relationships with the children and their parents.
