Pre-Departure Preparation
 At GapGuru we understand that India can be a challenging and daunting destination for first time travellers as well as the importance of making sure all arrangements are in place before your arrival into the country. As a result we put in a lot of effort in preparing you for your time in India making sure that you have all the details and know what to expect when you arrive.
Six weeks before your actual departure you will attend a pre-departure briefing session in Newbury to talk about India as a destination and your time there. At this meeting you get an opportunity to meet with other volunteers who will be travelling to India at around the same time as well the GapGuru team to ask questions and get all the information you need to maximise your time and experience in india.
We provide all our volunteers with a detailed pre-departure information pack that gives you all the information about India, the cultural differences that you need to be aware about, project and home stay details, a comprehensive list of all contact numbers and addresses as well as what to do in an emergency.
We also use this briefing session to go through the logistics, collect visa forms and passports, discuss arrival details as well as all the opportunities for travel around India and how to handle independent travel across the country.

I couldn't have had a better time if I'd tried. The children and the staff were incredibly friendly, they made me so welcome. I had the opportunity to work on a 1:1 basis with the children which was great fun and extremely beneficial. I was able to build up some good relationships with the children and their parents.
