Interested in a career in hospitality? This is the placement for you!
Gain valuable experience during your gap year in one of India's top luxury hotels. The chain of hotels, located in Kerala, provides an unparalleled ethos for community development, environmental awareness and the practice of Indian holistic therapies like Ayurveda.
Although this is a business operating in one of India's most important economic fields - tourism, it emphasizes environmentally-sensitive tourism. So along with the ayurvedic massage, cooking and yoga classes and its modern, state-of-the-art service to its guests, it uses biodigesters and waste treatment plants to convert effluents into clean fuel. These hotels blend into their environment, giving to the local community and living side by side with nature.
Your Role: Well, you need to earn a living but if you're into environmental issues and you like working with people - what better place to do an internship? This company positively welcomes interns and provides them with mentors. It encourages staff to innovate, so you could find yourself involved in anything and are welcome to make suggestions.
You will be working in the various different areas of the hotel as per the ebb and flow of guests. Provide restaurant service at breakfast, accompany the guest activities in the mid-morning, assist check-ins/outs at noon, do kitchen 'mise-en-place' (site preparation) for lunch in the afternoon and be part of the team which serves dinner. This gap year work placement also encourages you to participate in other areas of the hotel operations - for example community development projects related to the local environment or improving your hospitality skills through training.
What you gain: If you are interested in enhancing your CV or want to learn about the hospitality industry aboard, this is a top gap year project. In your work you would improve your hospitality skills and also gain a valuable insight as to how Indians and others holiday, Indian culture and lifestyle.
