Teaching At The School
Posted By
Alex Blok
on 05 Jan 2008
Finished my first full day of teaching at school today and it was tough, i have a newfound respect for the teachers who taught me! Firstly i taught the youngest people at the school aged 6-7(class 1) who knew very little english so I taught them the numbers 1 to 20 and some very basic words such as 'sun' 'tree' 'stars' etc. That went well and the children are very keen to learn but the lessons can be quite intense nd keeping them busy and focused for 45 minutes is very hard.

First Day At School
Posted By

on 04 Jan 2008
Been here for 3 days now and the biggest culture shock was today when i went to the school. All the children are from underprivaleged backgrounds and are so keen to learn but the equipment they have is so limited. The science lab had one microscope and the computer lab had 6 very old computers. Biology involved looking at a tapeworm in a jar! The lab was actually being used as a resting place for sick children which shows how keen the children are to come to school.

Landing in India was an experience in itself. After going through immigration it was off to collect my bag, or so I thought. It was a good hour before i managed to spot my huge rucksack and even then i had to barge through the hundreds of people waiting around the collection point to get to it.Coming out of the airport was a shock, not only was i amazed by how hot and bright it was for 6am in the morning but i was amazed to see the streets flooded with people.

I'm Off

on 02 Jan 2008
The date is finally here, January 10th, the day i leave England for 4 months. Naturally I am slightly nervous to be leaving family and friends but am excited about whats on the other side. The flight will be a challenge in itself having never been on a flight for longer than 5 hours but I'm sure the free toothbrush and earplugs will get me through. Having said goodbye to a teary eyed Mother in the morning i set off to Heathrow with my Dad.
