Tanzania Encompassed is GapGuru’s complete Tanzanian gap year experience. Volunteer for 4 weeks in a nursery and primary school, climb Africa’s highest peak in an exhilarating 7-day trek to the summit of Kili, and take off on an incredible safari, visiting all 4 major game parks in northern Tanzania.
Your gap year role: As a classroom volunteer, you can make a difference with your gap year and also add essential experience on your CV.
The main subject that our partner schools look for is English-teaching support as English language skills are vital for the students to improve their future job prospects. Any other areas where volunteers are particularly skilled or interested are also extremely welcome, and you may wish to run your own activity club with the children. For early years development in the younger classes, much of the learning is done through educational games and activities.
Climbing Kili is the most challenging trek you can do on the African continent and, with Uhuru Peak standing at 5,895m above sea level, there is a huge sense of accomplishment for those who conquer the mountain. Our 7-day Machame Route itinerary gives you the best chance to summit (building in an extra acclimatisation day) on an affordable budget.
On safari, gap year travellers are encouraged to enjoy the incredible natural spectacles of Tanzania. Experience the extraordinary and discover amazing wildlife - including a chance to encounter all of the big 5!
Your gap year experience: Gap year volunteering in Africa is one of the most worthwhile things you can do with your gap year. A Kili climb is not suitable for everyone and, as such, Tanzania Encompassed is only recommended for the most adventurous gap year travellers! Our 5-day safari takes you to all 4 of the major game parks in Northern Tanzania: Ngorongoro Crater, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and the world famous Serengeti!
