There are limited places on the programme and these will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis, with selection interviews taking place regularly, so to avoid disappointment please apply early to teach abroad!
Who are we looking for? The Travelling to Teach programme is open to all qualified teachers, English language teachers and those with an aptitude for drama, arts and crafts, music or sport. The children are keen to learn new skills and Travelling to Teach volunteers will learn huge amounts from them in return - this really is a once in a lifetime volunteering opportunity and one that could change lives.
What's involved?
The Travelling to Teach programme works with a number of charity/community schools in India, Nepal, Tanzania and Chile which provide education to children from some of the poorest backgrounds and that really need help and support from volunteer teachers.
This is a three week long trip which will see selected volunteer teachers visit and work in a school in India, Nepal, Tanzania and Chile, educating the local children and working with the existing teaching staff. The aim of the volunteer programme is to provide interactive and interesting lessons to the children, bringing entertainment and education to their classes.
Trip details: The Travelling to Teach Summer Holiday Programme 2012 runs for three weeks, from 4th - 25th August 2012. Teaching will not begin until Monday 6th August but you will need to arrive in-country early to allow for welcome and orientation.
The teaching abroad trip is inclusive of a pre-arranged school placement, transfers, accommodation, meals, and in-country support from GapGuru's local coordinators. Flights and insurance are not included but can be arranged by GapGuru. Volunteer teachers applying to take part in the Travelling to Teach programme will receive a fundraising pack and assistance from GapGuru to help them raise money for the trip.
