Day 1: Travel - Delhi to Bharatpur
Leave
Delhi by road to arrive at Bharatpur in the evening. Once settled into your hotel, you will take a rickshaw ride out to the park to see the abundant wildlife and flowers. The wonderfully rich Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary is a year-round haven for hundreds of bird species - it's an ornithologists' heaven! But the national park is also home to blue bull or nilgai, sambar, jungle cats and mongeese - all of which you'll easily spot as you drive through the park.
Day 2: Bharatpur - Fatehpur Sikri - Agra
Leave Bharatpur for Agra, stopping at the abandoned city of Fatehpur Sikri which remains a perfectly preserved example of a Mughal city dating back to 1571. Arrive in Agra for an evening visit to the Taj Mahal. The light at sunset on the jewel set marble is absolutely magical. You could also fit in Agra Fort before your overnight train to Jabalpur.
Day 3: Jabalpur (Kanha National Park)
Arrive Jabalpur and drive to Kanha National Park. The reserve stretches for miles through Madhya Pradesh and is one of the largest tiger reserves in the world (940sq kms). As well as Tigers, you may catch sight of up to 22 other species including leopards, gaur, sambar, slothbear, and Indian wild dog. The Park is the last remaining haven for the Barasingha (swamp deer). Sleep in log cabins and exchange the day's stories beside the camp fire.
Day 4: Kanha National Park.
An all day Jeep safari exploring the jungle which inspired Kipling's 'The Jungle Book'.
