Volunteer at this nursery that believes in the holistic development of children

This is an English medium nursery situated about 2 km from the town of Ngaramtoni in a small village. Many of the children that come to the nursery are orphans. Some of them are also helped with books, uniforms and school fees.

There are currently three classes with 62 pupils in totals. They are aged between 3-6 years.

Your role: Working with little children always means that you need bundles of energy. You could be helping them in school in the morning. Making structured planned lessons or taking groups of children out on special projects/outings.

The children enjoy singing, learning numbers and reading and the school encourages participation by the children unlike many other schools.

There would be plenty of opportunity to interact with the children to improve the expression and understanding of the English language. You could use nursery rhymes, games or other activities to engage the children and keep them occupied and learning.

What you gain: This is a lovely little nursery and the children are very welcoming. You will enjoy interacting with the children and helping them learn. As a number of children come from very poor backgrounds it is a great way to use your gap year to have an impact on the future of these children in rural Tanzania.

• Airport Pick Up – Arriving in a new city and not knowing where to go and how to go can be quite unsettling. A GapGuru representative will meet you at the airport and take you to your place of stay where you can put your feet up after a long flight.
• In country Orientation and Welcome Pack – When you arrive in the city, you will have an orientation where you could meet other gapers from GapGuru, know all about the city, how to find your way around, where to get SIM cards for the phone, small bits that you will need help sorting out in the first few days.
• In Country Support – Our local co-ordinators act as a friend and guide through out your stay. Whether you feel home sick or just want some local information, they are there to make sure you have a memorable experience.
• Accommodation – In most cases, you will be staying with a local host family. It gives you a taste of the daily life of a local and sample some delicious come cooked food. In some cases accommodation is provided with the projects.
