Assist with Teaching or Vocational Training: Project Info

This forward thinking charitable school offers a holistic approach to help empower its 450 pupils - an integrated group of able bodied children and children with disabilities. As a gap year volunteer you could be involved in many different activities which include teaching and training - everything from English to chutney making! This really is an exceptional opportunity to get involved in a variety of areas and use your creative skills to the maximum.

Assist with Teaching or Vocational Training: Your Role

Your Role: Depending upon your skills and experience you could choose from classroom teaching or assistance, vocational training in a variety of areas - arts, sports, music, drama and different craft skills such as textiles, pottery, wood work, etc

With the school running so many different lessons and courses there is potential to be involved in more than one area. Also, if you have a creative skill that is not being offered at present there would be opportunity to discuss this with the school to see if they have the resources to start delivering training in the subject.

What you Gain: This is a fantastic gap year opportunity for anyone who enjoys working with children and young adults and also with any special skills to impart. It is also an incredibly rewarding experience to be able to help provide a quality education to some of the city's most marginalised children.

Working in an environment with a mix of backgrounds and abilities will give you a perspective on the challenges that India as a nation faces in tackling so many development issues. This project also gives you an insight into the life of the 26 million disabled people living in the country and constantly struggling to be part of mainstream India.

This placement would of course give you valuable experience if you are considering a future career in teaching or training.

It's great having the weekends off as I have a chance to go sightseeing. This weekend I explored Old Delhi and saw the Red Fort and I have seen many other beautiful temples and historical sights. The only problem with the trip is that it's going too fast. Time flies when you're having fun!
