Teaching in South America
ABOUT GAP YEAR TEACHING PROJECTS IN SOUTH AMERICA:
GapGuru's gap year teaching programmes in South America are based in Chile and in
Ecuador. Both countries are popular tourist destinations making knowing English
important to get a good job. As English is not widely spoken and the schools we
work with have poor resources and few quality English teachers, gap year volunteers
play an important role in teaching English to children.
Volunteers teach children in primary schools and secondary schools, and can also
give lessons to young adults who want to improve their English skills. Teaching
during your gap year is a good way to make a real difference helping underprivileged
communities to develop. This is a chance for children from underprivileged backgrounds
to interact with native English speakers and improve their English through interactive
activities such as drama or singing. This is a very rewarding gap year project,
during which you can make a real difference helping schools to provide better education
by teaching English.
Teaching in South America is also the opportunity to explore the astounding surroundings.
During your gap year you will discover a new culture while living in local communities,
and you will have the chance to travel around during your spare time.
If you want to prepare yourself for teaching abroad, have a look at the GapGuru
TEFL training page.

Testimonials: “ Although I know
I helped my students by teaching them some English skills, I learned much, much
more. Being immersed in an entirely new culture is a great opportunity to learn
more about yourself. I appreciated the strong sense of community amongst all the
Volunteers.
