GapGuru Teaching Training weekend

If you are considering spending your gap year teaching abroad, whether you are a qualified teacher or just an individual interested in volunteer teaching, the GapGuru TEFL training program is for you.

It is not very easy for everyone deliver a lesson in front of dozens of kids who don't speak your language. Thanks to this TEFL training, you will gain more confidence and skills to teach to a large number of children, and make this experience beneficial for everyone.

The classes will be held by an experienced TEFL tutor, who has been teaching English as a foreign language to students from around the world at the Swan School for English for the last five years. She also taught in Nepal for six months as part of one of our projects.

This is the opportunity for the future volunteers to be advised on teaching abroad by an experienced former volunteer through interactive training. Our TEFL teacher will share her experience with you, and this is a chance be prepared for your exciting adventure teaching in a school in Asia, Africa, or South America!

This TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) training will cover all the useful topics such as teaching grammar and vocabulary, classroom management, group dynamics, correction and recycling techniques. Future volunteer teachers will also learn how to make teaching fun, using techniques such as singing, drama and others amusing activities for kids.

The techniques and theories you will learn are particularly relevant for those teaching in primary schools, but they are equally valid for teaching adults with little knowledge of English.

The GapGuru TEFL training sessions are the opportunity to meet a qualified teacher who will share her experience of teaching abroad with you. Future volunteers will learn how to teach English to foreigners and how to make it amusing for them.

The TEFL course outline is as follows:

• An intensive TEFL course offering a foundation in the essential elements of English language teaching to young learners in developing countries.

• Classroom ideas where few or no materials are required and teaching practice in a supportive and interactive environment.

TEFL trainees will cover the following topics:

• An overview of grammar and the relation between structure and function
• Awareness of the problems involved in presenting and practising vocabulary
• A focus on pronunciation
• Lesson planning
• Classroom management and group dynamics
• Correction and recycling techniques
• Using techniques such as singing, simple drama, games and activities with an emphasis of making teaching fun.

Our TEFL training sessions are organized over week-ends in Oxford. They go on two days:
Saturday: 10:00am to 7:00pm
Sunday: 9:00am to 5:00pm
