About the Organisation

A unique organisation that is committed to promoting rock music in Chennai

About the Organisation: This organisation works to promote rock music in India and to nurture native talent. They organise a large annual music festival in Chennai, host weekly concerts for local bands and run regular ' battle of the bands ' competitions. The centre houses a modern recording studio where albums are recorded by local bands. There is also a music school for tuition in musical instruments like guitars, drums, bass and keyboards.

But it is not all about the music! This organisation has an active involvement in community development, sponsoring underprivileged students through college, and campaigning against drug and alcohol abuse amongst the youth.

Who they are:
Edgy, in your face, up front promotion goes with the territory for this 7 year-old Chennai NGO, which calls itself the birthplace of India's music melting pot. But that's the music business!

It has big dreams and says it out loud: "INNOVATION demands PASSION! PASSION demands ENTHUSIASM! ENTHUSIASM demands PEOPLE"

RockMaster: What they do What they do:
This project's heart is based on two words - 'Innovation' and 'Genuine'. The aim 'To ensure no talent is left undiscovered or unrecognised.' Oh and by the way, they intend to see their project centres in every city in India. They cover all the elements of a music business, but not for profit.

The project runs awards, a music festival, stage performances and promotes the idea of "clean" music - without the drugs, vice and general mayhem usually associated with the music business, and it has a school to nurture new talent, turn amateurs into confident musicians. Developing leadership skills and the right attitude, learning tricks of the trade, understanding band dynamics are just some of the skills you would pick up. Students are also asked to join a charity and give back to the community. It also runs weekly sessions that reach out into the community, street schools, summer camps, emergency relief.

What you can do:
In the words of the Madonna track: "Music makes the people come together" So it doesn't matter if you're a musician, or just play air guitar! You could get involved in the studio tech stuff, join or form a band, organise, market, design publicity material and promote events like awards, shows and festivals - whatever it is, if you want to be a part of the music business and to help a really ambitious project then check out Chennai.
