Assist with research and education
at this leading Crocodile Centre

This is an exceptional gap year project for anyone interested in animal conservation. This Crocodile Centre houses more than 2,500 crocs as well as a number of snakes and amphibians in an area along the Tamil Nadu coast. It runs educational and awareness programmes and works with many schools in the local area and has a well-stocked library for anyone interested in reading up on crocs and snakes.

Your Role: As a gap year volunteer you'll be involved in almost every aspect of the centre's work. So be prepared for some physical work - such as cleaning out croc enclosures. But also you'll help with research projects, the environmental programme's summer camps with local children and as visitor guides

What you Gain: This is a unique opportunity for anyone intending to study conservation, zoology or related disciplines or someone already in those fields wanting to see a project in depth. It's also a great location for exploring Tamil Nadu - you can easily get into Chennai if you fancy a night out or down to Mahaballipuram for a relaxing weekend on the beach.

Having completed my A-Levels, last summer, I was desperate to get away, travel, and explore a new country and to gain some practical field work experience - the Crocodile Conservation project in Chennai was the perfect opportunity for me to do all of this!
