Medical Placement in a Hospital: About the Project

Your Role: As a gap year volunteer you have two options available within this organisation. Firstly medical students are offered the opportunity to gain vital work experience within the hospitals. You may be interested in researching a number of diseases that you would not come across in the UK, or gaining experience working with highly qualified professionals in a leading hospital.

What you Gain: This is a great opportunity for those wishing to pursue a medical career. By gaining first class experience during your gap year in a new place with a different set of challenges, both personally and medically, you will be able to improve your CV and indicate to future employers how passionate you are about your chosen career.

Requirements: You need:
  • To be over 18 by the date of departure.
  • To be interested in working in medicine, already training or qualified.
  • Commitment and willingness to learn.
Accommodation: Wherever possible you will stay in an Indian home or share an apartment with other gappers. Home-stay hosts are carefully selected and you would normally share a non air-conditioned room with another gapper.

Laurence Sharifi

Laurence Sharifi
I came to India for medical work experience so that I could have the opportunity to immerse myself completely in the life of a doctor, and see if this was really the career for me. The hospital and its staff were amazing and I learnt more about medicine and life as a physician than I could have ever hoped. Besides, any summer if it involves seeing a man lying awake with his brain prised open has got to be worth it!
