About the Project: This hospital in Pune welcomes gap year volunteers from all levels, whether pre-university, medical students or graduate doctors. The staff believe they
have a duty to help train young people and particularly welcome interns who haven't started medical training yet, so if you're thinking of a career in medicine this is a great chance to find out more.
Your Role: What you will do during your internship will depend on your level of experience. Pre-university gappers will observe the work of different departments, including operations. They will also be able to get involved in hospital asepsis protocols and working at reception, in customer care, talking to/counseling patients and making sure they are happy.
Medical graduates will obviously be able to get more involved in patient treatment in a range of different departments.
What you Gain: You'll get an intimate insight into the medical profession; the chance to learn from expert doctors and an experience that will give you an advantage whether you're aspiring to a career in medicine or already qualified.
Requirements: You need:
- To be over 18 by the date of departure.
- To be interested in working in medicine, already training or qualified.
- Commitment and willingness to learn.
Accommodation: Wherever possible you will stay in an Indian home or share an apartment with other Gappers. Home-stay hosts are carefully selected and you would normally share a non air-conditioned room with another Gapper.
