About the Organisation: This hospital provides affordable medical care to people from low income families in
Delhi. Hospital facilities include clinics for both children and adults. The hospital is all outpatient, and patients pay only a nominal contribution for their treatment. They also run a nursery school inside the hospital grounds for young children from the local slum and have a unit for children with special needs.
Who they are: This organization is a non-governmental organization founded in 1952 by a voluntary woman's group, whose members now include 500 women from all over the world. There are 41 regular doctors and a voluntary executive committee which changes each year. All funds come from their own fundraising efforts and the hospital receives no funding from the government.
What they do: Put simply, the hospital exists to provide free medicine and treatment to low income families, but in reality their reach into the community goes further. The hospital also provides educational facilities and scholarships for children to go to school and college.
What you can do: You can teach, observe, learn and give your valuable help to this worthwhile cause in many ways. Other than volunteering at the hospital and other programmes, you can also lend a hand in organising fundraising events, such as regular fairs and charity balls.
