Based in
Bangalore, this gap year volunteer placement is in a unique and innovative project working with several children’s organisations throughout the city to improve the quality of life for underprivileged children. They run programmes in sports (hockey, table tennis, basketball and ultimate frisbee), summer camps, monthly camping trips (with canoeing, trekking and bird-watching), creative arts (pottery, painting, drama, music), spoken English and computer training, to name but a few.
Your Role: As a volunteer in this gap year project you have the freedom and flexibility to concentrate on any particular activity that inspires
you - whether drama, teaching English, sports, arts and crafts or outdoor activities. Your time will be split between managing programmes
(in conjunction with the project's staff) and actively participating in them. So you spend about half your time in the project offices and the
other half out and about with the kids.
What you Gain: This project relies heavily on the work of volunteers. You'll be working with local and GapGuru volunteers. You'll get to see quite
a lot of
Bangalore and the great thing about it is that the work is very lively, varied and always inspiring. By spending a lot of time with the
children, you get to see how your voluntary work has an impact on and benefits their lives.
