About the Organisation: With offices all over the country, the newspaper covers an area almost half the size of India. As well as the daily newspaper, regular supplements are published covering city life, health, and women's issues as well as a special publication for children and teenagers.
Who they are: The newspaper started life in 1931 under private ownership. In terms of the area of circulation it covers approximately 24% of the total national population and, according to the National Readership Survey in India for 2006, was the 6th biggest English language newspaper in India in terms of readership at 1.05 million readers. Copies sold runs between 250,000 to 300,000 daily.
What they do: Weekday publications have a standard format of daily local, national and international news and sports. There are also editorial and business sections. During the week different supplements are produced covering employment, property, matrimonials etc as well as a daily features magazine covering various issues of the day.
The newspaper is famous for articles by well known contributors and their editorial advisor won the prestigious C. H. Mohammad Koya Journalism Award in 2005 for his outstanding contribution to the field.
The Sunday edition is considered to be the flagship publication, with magazine supplements incorporating both national and international themes and sections on arts, leisure, travel, lifestyle, sport, new age living, books, self-development, entertainment and development issues.
