Know your city

Close your eyes and try to imagine life at Earth’s magnetic center. Are you picturing volcanoes, tidal waves, earthquakes and molten lava? Try an oasis of wandering goats, fermented grapes, new age gurus and telescopes. Believe it or not, the spot on earth that’s supposedly most energetically charged is the Elqui valley to the west of the Andes, in central Chile.

The Elqui Valley offers peace, rest, interest and an irresistible attraction to visit all its villages – with their churches, vines, squares, adobe houses, handicrafts and local customs. An ideal getaway from the bustle of the city, where all you hear when you go out walking is the breath of the wind in the trees. It is also well known for its magnetic vibrations, drawing many visitors to the valley just to practice yoga, relax and meditate, living a natural life and taking advantage of the almost perceptible energy as they go about their daily tasks. The clear skies attract more travellers every day, coming to visit the Tololo and Mamalluca observatories (it is essential to call ahead and reserve). Another important attraction is the sunny climate which warms the fertile soil, the steep mountainsides and rushing rivers.

Elqui Valley - Know your City There is no single route to take when exploring this beautiful valley; every visitor can choose that which he finds of most interest.

The valley is one of Chile's major pisco producers. Pisco, produced from distilled grapes, is used to make pisco sour, a refreshing cocktail and a national alcohol by choice.

The weather in the Elqui Valley is incredibly consistent: It is cool in the mornings and evenings, and the sun shines very hot in a cloudless sky during the day. Endowed with a clear skies, makes it a popular destination for star gazing. It has only 30 days of rain per year and no pollution.

History of the city Arrow

Spiritual wanderers and gurus of meditation, yoga, astrology and the like, settled in Chile’s Elqui Valley in the 1960’s. Their search led them to this location, at 30 degrees South and 70 degrees West, a place where two rivers (the Turbio and Claro) act as the ying and yang of Earth’s new water chakra or “Svadhisthana.”

Astrology tells us that for the past 2000 years, Earth’s previous magnetic center was located at 30 degrees North in the Himalayas, in Tibet. That, however, was in the Age of Pisces. Today, in the Age of Aquarius, the magnetic core has flopped hemispheres to 30 degrees South.

In 1982, scientists measured Earth’s magnetic forces for the first time by satellite. Sure enough, the hippies were right on. The satellites found the Earth’s greatest point of energy in South America, around Chile’s Elqui Valley.
