My third week here in India, and I’m starting to get used to things not being quite as they are at home. The sometimes crazy traffic, the cows in the middle of the road and the stray-dogs barking at night are now feel as commonplace as snow in Sweden, so to speak. This weekend I went with Will and his dad who was visiting (and was not used to the constant traffic-horns at night) to the Lalbagh botanical gardens. It was really a nice change from the hustle bustle of Bangalore - a quiet sanctuary surrounded by the fast-growing city. A lot of beautiful trees, flowers and ponds were to be found in the metropolitan oasis, which provided with good photo-subjects as well (such as the designated spit-buckets to be found all around the park).
The internship is still going well, and I’ve gotten to interview anything from interior decorators to a French band playing in Bangalore. I go in to work at around 11 am as well, and by then I’m almost the first person at there! Most people drop in at around 3-4 pm and, from what I understand, work till around midnight. The people at the Afterhrs, where I work, finish earlier though - at around 6-7 pm (even though the interns, like me, get to leave at around 5 pm, hehe…).
All things aside - today is not like other days, because today is Diwali – the festival of lights! Diwali celebrates the return of Rama (from somewhere, I’m ashamed to admit that I don’t remember at this time), and traditionally people fill their homes and outdoors with lights in order to make Rama find his way home. Besides celebrating with lights, people eat sweets, dress nicely and sometimes give gifts as well. And of with course fireworks. There has been fireworks going off every night since this weekend, so I’m almost scared to think how intense the fireworks are going to be tonight…! I’m writing from work since they had some server-issues, but the net is now back online so I guess I’ll get back to work! Happy Diwali!
