William Damazer: Gap Year Images So the final part of the blog is about my role as an Activity Camp Co-ordinator…actually this is a new blog, I forgot about this for a week.

I’ve really got into much more of a rhythm over the past week and am trying to throw myself into the deep end at work by attending more programmes than just the sport. Last weekend I went to a Funday for the kids in Cubbon Park. They loved the camera…which is why I have around 100 pictures of children on one day. The only really worrying part was when they started passing my camera around like…well like they pass me around (quite roughly in an excited manner). The volunteer who was running the session warned me that his brand new sony camera last year suffered from a similar problem last year and is no longer with us. I might try and go to a couple more creative arts sessions as well next week (not that I’ll be able to help that much with my art and craft skills) but as exams are about to start most of the sessions are closing up (other than sports) so I should act quickly.

William Damazer: Gap Year Images The really big project that Kieran (a new volunteer from Gap Guru) and I are working on is our Football day. I had been working with some kids from the local area and a centre called Balamandira and found that they had a lot to catch up on in terms of basic skills and principles that are important to football. Although I’m not that good at football I feel like I have the basic skills…very very basic skills so we’re going to try and take the session ourselves!!! This has not gone so well in the past but I have a better feeling about this (we’re getting whistles so respect is inevitable). The kids are really good though. Paramesh and I always have good talks about 50 cent and rap music (I’m trying to steer him towards the 80s but he is still insisting that Akon is good music) and when I bump into the kids in the local area they’re really friendly. On the first day I was here Vishal (one of the founders of the programme) said to me that us just being here helps the children, so that makes me feel better when they completely ignore me! So next blog will be a big update on the event.

In the meanwhile I’m off to Mysore this weekend and then on an adventure camp all of next week!!! So no computer…but lots of mosquitoes and leeches. Will get back to you if I’m still alive.

Will xxx
