Diverse gap years

Carefully chosen projectWe work with over 100 projects across 11 countries and 4 continents, to provide an incredible range of voluntary work, teaching, internship and travel opportunities. We cover everything from childcare and conservation to teaching and trekking, with a few paid placements and internships thrown in for good measure, so you can be certain we’ve got something to suit you!

Carefully selected projects

Carefully chosen projectAll of our gap year projects are carefully researched and monitored to ensure that they provide the best possible experience for both you, and the community, company or organisation you work with. This means our volunteers always make a difference, interns get given real responsibility and travellers are guaranteed to see the very best of each country.

Expert advice

Carefully chosen projectWe wouldn’t be the gap year guru if we didn’t provide the best possible advice and support! Our UK team is made up of experienced travellers who love helping gappers plan their trip of a lifetime, and are only too keen to guide you through all the nitty gritty of sorting flights, visas and vaccinations. We’ll do our best to get to know you so we can match you to the perfect gap year abroad, then invite you to a comprehensive pre-departure briefing to help you prepare.

In-country support

Carefully chosen projectWe have teams in every country we work in, so you’ll be met on arrival and helped to settle in as quickly as possible. Our local coordinators will give you practical advice to make living overseas that little bit easier, while passing on all the local knowledge you need to help you find your feet at your voluntary work or internship placement.

Local accommodation

Carefully chosen projectOn most projects our gappers stay in homestay accommodation that gives you a unique insight into life in another country. By giving you the chance to live with a local family and taste delicious home-cooked local cuisine, our gap years let you see so much more than the average tourist!

Responsible travel

Carefully chosen projectWe believe that the only impact any of our gappers should have is a positive one, so we’re committed to being responsible when it comes to sourcing and delivering all of our voluntary work, internships and travel. This means doing our best to minimise disruption and maximise the benefit for local communities and environments. This philosophy is backed up by the work of our registered charity, the FutureSense Foundation. Through this we support sustainable development in the long term, so you can feel part of something much larger, no matter how long you volunteer!

Year Out Group membership

Carefully chosen projectGapGuru is a proud member of the Year Out Group, which means we comply with a strict code of conduct when it comes to providing gap years. What does that mean for you? Well it guarantees you high standards, security and the confidence to trust that we’ll deliver something as good as it looks on our website! Click here to find out more about the Year Out Group.
