The best way to find out if a GapGuru gap year is right for you is to hear from the people who’ve been there and done it themselves! You can read in-depth, day-to-day accounts of our volunteers and interns in our Blogs, but for an overview of what taking a gap year with GapGuru is really like, read some of the testimonials below:
The medical internship with GapGuru was a truly wonderful experience that opened my eyes into the everyday life of a doctor. I observed and I learnt more than I ever thought I was able to, with many thanks to all the staff at the hospital for making that happen. I was also fortunate enough to have been part of the 'Holi Journey' where I got to take part in the Holi festival, camel safari, tiger safari, see the Taj Mahal and even ride an elephant! This enabled me to see the incredible diversity of which India has to offer, which I can honestly say has made a lasting impression on me.

Although I was excited about working in a school, I never anticipated loving it quite as much as I did! I was made to feel so welcome and really felt that my help was valuable to the school. The teaching, although a challenge, was so much fun and really fulfilling, especially when I could see the progress the children made.

By far the best experience of my life, absolutely fantastic. I met the most amazing people, who I will never forget and had the best time of my life helping others - wish I had gone for longer. It is an eye opener to everyone and does really change you. I would recommend it to anyone!

An amazing experience that will stay with me forever! The host families were all lovely and really cared and looked out for me and the other volunteers as if we were part of their family. Volunteering and staying with a local family is a great way to fully immerse yourself into a different culture. You learn so much more about the people and the country compared to if you just went travelling and you get to give something back to their community at the same time.

My experience was loads of fun... The job placement itself was extremely beneficial to me and I feel like my help was extremely beneficial to the school I worked at. GapGuru did a great job with helping me whenever I needed it, while also allowing me to be as independent as I wanted as well. Thanks so much!

I had an amazing time! It was completely different from what I expected, but the real 'African' experience I was hoping for. Although it did take a while to get used to such a different way of life, I loved it and found it far more difficult going home and leaving everyone. I hope I was as helpful and made a difference to the project and children as much as they did to me.

My placement could not have been more suited to my skills and gave me the chance to feel like I was doing something really worth while. I had such a fantastic experience with my homestay family who were unbelievably welcoming and I made so many new local friends.

I really enjoyed my experience working with the FutureSense Foundation [GapGuru’s registered charity]. The work was incredibly rewarding and eye opening. I would definitely like to participate in a similar project in the future and I could not recommend the experience enough.

Coming to Tanzania as a volunteer means you get to meet so many other like minded people from all over the world and you end up making so many new friends... The homestays are brilliant. I stayed with very kind and welcoming families with brilliant cooks! I really did have the best experience of my life and got so much more out of it than I ever imagined I would!
