The medical internship with GapGuru was a truly wonderful experience that opened my eyes into the everyday life of a doctor. I observed and I learnt more than I ever thought I was able to, with many thanks to all the staff at the hospital for making that happen. I was also fortunate enough to have been part of the 'Holi Journey' where I got to take part in the Holi festival, camel safari, tiger safari, see the Taj Mahal and even ride an elephant! An amazing experience that will stay with me forever! The host families were all lovely and really cared and looked out for me and the other volunteers as if we were part of their family. Volunteering and staying with a local family is a great way to fully immerse yourself into a different culture. I had an amazing time! It was completely different from what I expected, but the real 'African' experience I was hoping for. Although it did take a while to get used to such a different way of life, I loved it and found it far more difficult going home and leaving everyone.
